Hongwei Zhang is alecturer,master supervisor, and deputy head of the Energy Science and Engineering department. He graduated from China University of Mining and Technology with bachelor, master, andPhD degrees and was jointly trained at Pennsylvania State University in the United States. He currently serves as the deputy head of the Department of Energy Science and Engineering at China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing), a member of thecollege's trade union committee, a publicity member of the department's party branch, the deputySecretary-General of the Mine Tunneling and Support Committee of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering, a member of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering, the Chinese Coal Society,and a director of the Mining Rock Mechanics Branch of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering. He is also a youth editorial board member for several international journals including the International Journal of Coal Science & Technology and the International Journal of Oil, Gas and Coal Engineering,etc.
His research interests include mine pressure and strata control, high-temperature rock mechanics, and geothermal development. He lectures primarily on courses such as "Geothermal Resources Exploration" and "Geothermal Development and Utilization." He has led six projects including the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Youth Project), Beijing Natural Science Foundation (General Project),thefundamental research funds for central universities, "Double First-Class" disciplinary construction special funds, educational reform projects. Hehas also has directed five projects including open topics for national key laboratories, andparticipated in multiple projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and significant consultation projects of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Zhang has published over 20 SCI/EI indexed papers as the first author in journals such as the Journal of Coal, Mining and Safety Science and Engineering, Geomechanics and Geophysics for Geo-Energy and Geo-Resources, and Lithosphere. He holds more than 10 patents and has received six provincial and ministerial science and technology awards. He constantly received the Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award from China University of Mining and Technology (2019) and the nomination for the Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award from theFirst China Coal Society Youth Science and Technology Award (2020). He is also a core member of the second cohort of "Huang Danian-style Teacher Teams" in mining engineering education and has won nearly 20 teaching awards including the First Prize for Excellent Teaching Quality, the First Prize for Higher Education Teaching Achievement at the university level, the First Prize in the Teaching Innovation Competition, and the Young Teacher's Teaching Excellence Award.
Zhang serves as the invited lecturer for the Seminar on Clean Heating and Cooling for BRI Countries, secretary of the Key Laboratory for Coal Mine Disaster Prevention and Control under the Ministry of Emergency Management, and chief engineer at the Research Center for New Energy Development and Disaster Prevention in the School of Energy and Mining Engineering. He is an editorial board member of two international journals, including JCST, and a peer reviewer for 13 significant international journals like Energy. He was also a special invited reviewer for the 11th Asian Rock Mechanics Symposium (ARMS11).
